Alcossebre

The Social Services Deputy visits the Alcossebre 'Pequeñas Ilusiones' work camp

A total of 63 young volunteers are taking part in the IVAJ.GVA JOVE work camps in Castellón province. Sánchez Zaplana underlined “the cooperation and involvement of the Red Cross in this social initiative, which is aimed at disabled young people between the ages of 8 and 16 years”. The IVAJ.GVA JOVE is organising eleven work camps for young volunteers in the Valencian Community during July, of which three are being held in Castellón province. 442 young Valencians are taking part in work camps this summer, of which 206 are from other autonomous communities and from overseas.

Sanchez Zaplana
spoke during her visit to the 'Pequeñas Ilusiones' work camp, managed by the Red Cross, which is being held in the Jaume I Campsite in Alcossebre from the 20th to the 30th July.  She was accompanied by local mayor, Francisco Juan Mars.

The Social Services deputy also pointed out that “the number of projects for young volunteers which are being held in the Valencian Community has increased”, as well as the social, environmental and archaeological benefits of these initiatives.

At the Alcossebre work camp, there are 22 young volunteers from eleven Spanish autonomous communities (Andalucía, Asturias, Castilla-León, Cataluña, Galicia, La Rioja, Madrid, País Vasco, Navarra , Canarias and the Comunitat Valenciana) taking part together with twelve disabled children aged from 8 to 16 years.  They are all able to join in together in the various specially adapted dynamic activities.

The Social Services deputy underlined “the role of the Red Cross in this social initiative which is being held for the first time and the aim of which is to enjoy and share leisure time and training with disabled people”, and she praised the altruistic dedication of the young people during their holiday period.

She also added that there are 232 young people participating in the IVAJ.GVA JOVE work camps, 65 in archaeological work, another 65 in environmental work and 102 in social camps like this one.

The deputy pointed out that the eleven work camps in the Valencian Community aim to encourage the young people’s values in living together, tolerance, participation and learning about intercultural and intergenerational living together and teaching them to contribute with respect for cultural diversity as well as to facilitate social participation.  Each camp has its own particular theme amongst the themes mentioned above.

The work camps also provide an opportunity for exchanges with other autonomous communities through the International Voluntary Services, enabling young Valencians to take part in voluntary activities throughout the national and international ambit.
