The Torreblanca Culture Councillor, Inma Segura, announced that this year there will be something new which will make the final scene of the Passion Play a lot more spectacular as, according to her, “at the moment of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Alcala Asociacion de Bombos y Tambores will play their well-known ‘Rompida de la Hora’, which they play in Alcala every Good Friday”.

This scene in the Torreblanca Passion Play has always managed to send a shiver down the spines of the watchers present, because, as it takes place in the open air in the area surrounding the Calvario, it becomes a reality.  “Now, incorporating the famous drummers from Alcala, it will be much more spectacular”, said Segura, who is grateful for this addition from the neighbouring town.

Further, the principal actor in the 2014 Passion, Abel Segura, who will play Jesus Christ, wanted to call upon the local business sector, so that they could take some financial benefit from this theatrical representation, which has been declared of Provincial Tourist Interest.   “I would be glad if restaurants and local businesses would be involved in the Passion like the rest of the town, offering menus or special ideas for this day when Torreblanca becomes Jerusalem”.

For over 35 years in Torreblanca, each Maundy Thursday, more than 200 people have worked to set the scene for the 25 stages which bring Jesus Christ’s last days to life.  Everything is recreated in a magic atmosphere thanks to the hard work of the amateur theatre group, directed by Consuelo Betoret and Rosa Vilaplana.

The Torreblanca Passion Play, which has been classified as a Tourist Interest Fiesta, is a great spectacle which lasts over two hours and which is enthusiastically supported by the whole town.  In fact, all the preparations have already started for the count-down to this production.
