Alcala is finalising the arrangements for the Carnival
The final details are coming into place for Alcala de Xivert’s carnival celebrations which will take place this weekend. Mayor Francisco Juan Mars and the head of Fiestas Pascual Herrera spent the day supervising various aspects of the celebrations.
They also arranged more meetings with the leaders of the ‘collas’ who, in the mayor’s words, “are the real drivers of the fiesta”. Francisco Juan positively appreciates contact with the different local groups: “No-one can escape the fact that the ‘collas’ are the most important part of our fiesta and we are very clear that we must listen to their views”.
Regarding this year’s carnivals, the mayor pointed out “that this fiesta has deep roots in the municipality”. “In the last few days we have been totally immersed in different tasks such as the erection of the marquees, safety and supervision of the routes around Alcala and Alcossebre. We have finally started the countdown to the Carnival”, he explained.
On the other hand, Francisco Juan did not want to let the occasion pass without inviting neighbouring towns to the fiesta which is being held in Alcala and Alcossebre. “They will find a different Carnival here, open and for everyone, which throughout its extended history has proved to be attractive for everyone and, above all, most enjoyable”.
AN EVEN BETTER CARNIVAL THIS YEAR
Pascual Herrera has spent a lot of time working on what will be his first carnival in his position in charge of the municipality’s Fiestas. He wanted to make the ‘collas’ the protagonists of the carnivals and therefore “I continue to maintain direct open contact with them regarding any of their ideas or suggestions”. Through this line of communication, the carnival groups have already received information of the new things planned for this year. He has explained the changes which are planned for this year’s events to the carnival groups in the meetings he has held.
Herrera is convinced that the changes such as the all star show of the ‘collas’ in the ‘sambódromo’ in the plaza Juan Vilanova and the modifications to the processions’ routes will all be successful.
