Chess
In the end Alcala was on top form and beat an erratic Benicarló
Benicarló was outplayed

I thought I was the chairman of an ordinary club, and I have to report that my boys bordered on the sublime, and this happened when they beat an overwhelming club.
On table one, Dr. Comes, from Alcossebre, beat Agustin
The Bulgarian chessplayer for Alcala, Toni Stoichkov, played the best game of his life, although it lasted a long time.
Loriente, without any fuss, rose to become the best player for Alcalá, and won the most points for our club. His opponent, Kramer, made a mistake and Loriente made the most of his advantage up to the last move.
The match between Juan García and Ximo Vives lasted an hour and more or less 20 moves. Neither player had taken a piece and had not reached the other side of the board. Juan proposed that they call it a draw. Ximo accepted the second time. And it must be said that Juan received a call from his wife saying that he had to attend an appointment which he could not miss and he would have had to abandon the game, thus losing the point altogether. This is how chess goes, family responsibilities come first!
The game between Pascual Sancho and Jorge Gutiérrez ended happily for Pascual. (He was very pleased with this win as he is convalescing from a broken elbow which did not happen playing chess but when he fell off his bike).
And on the final board, J. M. Lavernia was playing for Alcala and beat Jose Luis Gaya.
The final result then was 5.5 to 0.5 points.
The leading Alcala youngsters
The four youngsters were even better. They won 7.5 out of 8 points.
12-years old Joan Cortés beat Manuel Serrano quite easily for the two points under dispute.
Victor Torrens, Alcala’s great hope and in whom the club has great expectations beat Andreu Companys.
David Folch won 5 of the 6 possible points for our team and played as brilliantly as we have come to expect with his vertical, aggressive game. His opponent, Albert Bueno, could do little against our young talent. Keep this up, David, you are on the right track.
Finally, the youngest in the team, Juan Pablo Sala, showed the results of his classes with Juanito Sopega, and his father and me, and led to checkmate against Ulpiano Mayoral, who could do nothing against the Alcala lad.
At the Tuesday meeting they will enjoy a cheese cake made by my wife as their prize, as they are the leaders and deserve it. And if they win the tournament they will be able to sample the famous home-made “boletes de chocolate” which my wife and mother-in-law make.
