New campaign to encourage children in the municipality to read more

The task of promoting reading to the town’s children has been taken up by the Alcala de Xivert Council through the Culture councillor, Maria Agut.  This new campaign has for its theme “you read, me as well”, and started last week.
The aim of this new municipal initiative is very plain: “it is to get the young children to develop the habit of reading”.  In the words of María Agut: “we must do all in our power so that the children go to the municipal libraries and benefit from their services to read more every day”.
This time, reading books will lead to the possibility of some very tasty prizes.  The function of the campaign is very simple.  Children between the ages of 6 and 12 years, the ages included in this initiative, go to the libraries to read books and then fill in a card about them.  In these cards they will have to explain “the story of the book they are reading and give a short summary about the author.  Then among those who read the most books there will be a draw for an ‘e-book’”.
At the end of the campaign one child from Alcala and another from Alcossebre “will be able to enjoy the latest technology thanks to the electronic book they will be given”.  And, according to the Culture councillor, “although everything evolves and new reading methods such as the e-book are introduced, the important thing is for our children not to lose interest in learning by reading”.
