The 14th Alcala de Xivert San Isidro Fair
Alcala de Xivert will be holding the 2014 San Isidro Fair on the 17th and 18th May. Once again this event will be the shop window for a wide variety of participating stands, with their products and services on display for residents and visitors, paying particular attention to local products, companies and growers associations.
As its prologue, on Thursday 15th May at 8pm in the Casa de Cultura Meeting Room there will be a lecture by José Ferrándiz Barceló, which, under the title “Experiences of cultivation: Zero Waste”, will be about new strategies for sustainable cultivation.
The 2014 Agricultural Fair will be officially opened on Saturday, 17th May at 12.30 h, with local authorities and other invited guests present, who will then visit the fair and all the different exhibitors.
There will then be the opening of the Third Alcala de Xivert Archaeological Museum Collection “The legacy of the Pastrana Cave. From the end of the Neolithic to the Bronze Age”, which will be on view in the CESAL.
During both days of the Agricultural Fair, visitors can enjoy a series of exhibitions, demonstrations and workshops in the CESAL and in the Fair area.
Besides the Third Alcala de Xivert Archaeological Museum Collection, the CESAL will house exhibitions of bonsais, bobbins and hand-made lace, restored furniture and paintings.
Within the Fair, in front of the Plaça de Les Escoles, there will be breeds of sheep and horse rides offered by the “A Cavall Alcala-Alcossebre Association”.
On Sunday morning there will be an exhibition of metal forging and demonstrations of “Xerojardinería” on the Viveros Alcossebre stand, and the mobile recycling vehicle, with a gift of bio-stabilising material on the Tetma stand.
Throughout the fair you can also visit the different artisan stalls taking part in the Mediaeval Market which will also be taking place.
As is traditional, growers will be celebrating the festival of their patron saint with a mass held in honour of Saint Isidro, which will be held in the parish church at 18.00 hours, followed by a solemn procession through the usual streets.
From 21.00 hours, in the Plaça de Les Escoles, the “La Cirilo” Dance Group will give a performance of their dances to mark their 20th anniversary.
Next there will be a “Sopar de Pa i Porta”, also in the Plaça de Les Escoles, with the “Germans Caballer i Amics” group taking part.
On the second day, Sunday, 18th May, the roar of engines will be heard in the fair area with the Bikers Morning, organised by Custom Maestrat, starting at 09.30 hours.
The gathering of Bobbin lace-makers will start at 10:00 hours in the Plaça de Les Escoles.
The brave ones with good legs will meet at 11.30 hours in the Kangaroo Pub to take part in the Guided Visit to the Bell Tower.
