Firemen remove a swarm from the Alcala de Xivert church
Members of the Provincial Consortium of Firemen were called to Alcala de because of the presence of a swarm of bees in one of the external walls of the local church.
The firemen used a truck with an articulated arm and a basket to evaluate how to resolve the problem in the vicinity of the church. Finally, as it is a protected building and it was therefore impossible to access the interior of the wall by making the hole which the bees were using any bigger, to remove the queen and move the whole ‘hive’ somewhere else, the firemen had to let as many insects out as possible, and then seal the hive to make the bees give up and abandon the area.
As the firemen explained, at this time of year they can receive up to six calls a day concerning swarms, and therefore they all have experience in handling and treating these insects.
