Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre awarded six Blue Flags

Five were for the beaches and one, for the third year running, for the Coastal Walkway, which was the first in the Valencian Community to receive this award.

[Img #33408]Blue Flags were awarded to the Las Fuentes, La Romana, El Carregador, Mañetes (Tropicana) and El Moro beaches, all of which are very popular with tourists and residents alike.

The awards certify the environmental quality of the beaches and water in Alcossebre, as well as their accessibility, safety and facilities available for swimmers and beach-goers.

Retaining the awards proves sustainability and the respect in which the environment is held by all those involved in tourism in the town and is one of the aspects which make Alcossebre different from other destinations.

The Coastal Walkway in Alcossebre arose as protection for the dunes existing between the Cargador and Romana Beaches.  The sands of the dunes contribute to the formation and maintenance of both beaches and it is therefore very important to conserve them.  The walkway was constructed from natural materials, in harmony with the surroundings.  It is possible to walk comfortably along much of the shore and the most spectacular point is when it is elevated over the dunes.

Mayor Francisco Juan Mars stated that this recognition has been given for the daily efforts of the council’s staff to maintain the beaches with full facilities and to make them possible year after year to be worthy of these awards.
