The ‘collas’ take to Alcala’s streets for Carnival
The central carnival procession, held on Saturday night, had some crucial moments. One of them was the opening of the ‘sambódromo’.

The most fun-filled
weekend of the year filled the streets with carnival goers who enjoyed
themselves and gave much pleasure.
Hundreds of people took part in the different street processions they held
and the public responded and crowds came to the events scheduled during
Carnival weekend in Alcala de Xivert.
Last Saturday, without
a doubt, was the great day for this fiesta masquerade. And in the afternoon, it was the children who
took to the streets, leaving them for the adults to follow shortly
afterwards. There were over twenty-five
‘collas’ taking part in the procession which was filled with colour, fiesta and
entertainment. The longest-serving
‘collas’ once again showed how Carnival can be, whilst the youngsters showed
that the future of the fiesta is assured.
They already carry the carnival DNA.
The main
carnival procession, held on Saturday night, had various defining points. One of these was the opening of the
‘sambódromo’. This was the first time
that the ‘collas’ had been introduced to the public during a spectacle where
lights and music were perfectly in tune with the carnival goers. The plaza Juan Vilanova was the setting for
this presentation and there were crowds of people there to see this new
carnival event which was greatly enjoyed by those taking part in the
procession. The floats shone with bright
lights clearly demonstrating how much hard work had been carried out by the
‘collas’ to prepare for the fiesta.
The Friday night
procession was also a great success for those taking part and the crowds of
onlookers. As happened the following
night, on Friday the fiesta continued in the marquee installed by the Council,
which was also quite brilliant, whilst the carnival goers showed their
ingenuity and sense of fun in their fancy dress creations.
