Alcala de Xivert

Over 2,000 people attended the concert given by La Fuga

The rain did not spoil the Alcala de Xivert Youth Festival

[Img #33633]The Alcala de Xivert Youth Festival started at mid-day on Saturday with the Paella Day challenging the threatened rain, which held off throughout the whole event.

There was a great atmosphere around the preparation of the paellas, an event which was expected to attract over 800 participants.

The music of Sound Night, a group of local DJs, set the rhythm, although each one had their own.  All around the area where the paellas were being prepared you could see the different stages of cooking of this excellent Valencian dish.  Whilst some went to a lot of trouble looking for thin sticks to get the fire going, others already had a good bonfire, or were cooking the meat, and some were already adding the rice and were definitely about to enjoy the delicious result.

The musical group Poquets i bons from Santa Magdalena made a triumphal entrance to say farewell to a spinster from the locality of Sueras, who decided to hold this great event during the Alcala de Xivert Youth Festival.

And so, little by little the paellas were ready and the poor weather, in other parts of the province, respected the paella tasting and everyone had an enjoyable meal.
The rain would arrive in due course, when the stage, sound and lights were all set for the

La Fuga concert.  There was a downpour shortly before the start of the concert, which was delayed waiting for the end of the Champions final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

Although crowds had already gathered hours before the La Fuga concert started, they stoically stood up to the cloudburst, and then, with the final whistle of the match, the masses arrived to fill the football field to capacity with 2,000 people who enjoyed the band’s songs, singing along with many of them, in a programme combining songs from their first albums with those of their most recent work “Raices”.   The Cantabrians gave their fans a great night, which vibrated with the best known tunes.
