Alcala de Xivert

Work on the new Alcala de Xivert Sociocultuarl Hall could be finished in August.

[Img #33741]The mayor of Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre, Francisco Juan Mars, accompanied by councillor José Colom, visited the building site of the Sociocultural Hall, located next to the José Antonio Miralles Sports hall.  The mayor was able to see how well the work is progressing, and hopes that it will be finished in August.

This facility, with an area of over 1,000 sq. mtrs, will be able to be used for events which need a lot of space, such as the carnival dances, and with the advantage of it being enclosed, the events will not be affected by the weather.

The budget for this work, as the local mayor pointed out, “amounts to 800,000 euros and is financed totally from the council’s own funds”.  Francisco Juan Mars stressed that “the policies restricting expenditure and the good financial management the Partido Popular has exercised since the last legislature, now enable us to make important investments in public work for the benefit of our residents”.

The Sociocultural Hall will have a car park behind it, to facilitate parking and access for users.  Both the building and the car park are being built on land acquired during the last legislature for the purpose of building them.

Councillor José Colom added that work will be carried out around the new building and to provide pedestrian access from the town centre.

Colom said that 197,000 euros are being invested in the construction of a 3-metre wide pavement, with lighting, which will connect via the Cami de Sant Miquel with the roundabout at the entrance to the town.  Local companies will be invited to tender for this work, “to continue with our policy of boosting financial activity and employment, meaning that the town’s small building companies don’t have to close”.

For the mayor, Francisco Jujan Mars, “all this will improve the surroundings of the sports area and the Camí de Sant Miquel, which is a much frequented area, in particular by elderly people, and therefore we wanted to integrate it with the town centre”.
