There was a great deal of competitive spirit in Alcossebre for the Second year of the TriSprint, a contest organised by Publicom Sport Events, with the collaboration of the Valencian Triathlon Federation and Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre Council. The three distances are short, which means that each section is a ‘sprint’ – 750 metres swimming, 20 kilometres cycling and 7 kilometres running.
In total, 450 competitors were at the start on Sunday morning, 27th July, of a contest of which the absolute winner was Jordi Pascual Sales, in a time of 1 hours 7 minutes, followed by Javier Andrés de la Esperanza, in 1 hour 8 minutes. Third was Antonio Carot García, in one hour 9 minutes.
The winning lady was Sandra Muñoz in 1 hour 23 minutes, followed by Patricia Boix in 1 hour 23 minutes and third on the podium was Yowanka Pallares in 1 hour 24 minutes.
The contest, which is one of the five races which count in the new Castellón Diputación series of triathlons, was enthusiastically cheered on along its route and on the beach. There were over 100 volunteers helping the organisers, with logistics, refreshments and help for the contestants all along the route.
The contestants greatly appreciated the showers installed at different points along the way so that they could cool down, given the high temperatures on Sunday morning. Also, importantly, the local police were present in force to mark the correct route for the race, and no incidents were recorded.
