Alcalà de Xivert
Alcala de Xivert will award work to local businesses to the value of 300,000 Euros
During 2012 they want to provide work up to the value of 500,000 Euros to encourage economic activity
Alcala de Xivert
Council will facilitate access for local construction companies to tender for
municipal works. This was the main
information passed to local businessmen from the building sector at a meeting
in the council meeting room, in which the Mayor, Francisco Juan Mars, the Town
Planning Councillor, José Colom, and the Finance Councillor, Desam Pitarch,
took part.
The local
executive informed the business sector that they have prepared projects to be
carried out in 2012. The Council’s aim
is to finance municipal works with their own resources, “a very important
question given the economic juncture”, the Mayor, Francisco Juan Mars, said.
They plan to
carry out work to the value of 300,000 Euros this year, which small local businesses will be able to
access. Given the amount of the budgets
for the different works, the law permits them to be carried out by invitation,
which will be issued solely to local businesses. Francisco Juan Mars explained that “we want
to help local businesses like this, reactivating the economy and trying to
reduce unemployment in our municipality”.
Those businesses
represented at this very important meeting were given an explanatory CD
regarding the five planned projects, which are the construction of a new
municipal building in Alcossebre, improvement work on the dressing rooms and
municipal swimming pool in Alcala de Xivert, improvements at the Calvario,
improvements to the Vista Alegre
children’s play area and improvements and repairs to the Parish Church
access and its surroundings.
The Alcala de
Xivert Governing Group has promised that in a few months time it will hold
another meeting with the local construction companies to announce new projects,
which they hope to finance with funding from the Municipal Heritage Land
funds. It is hoped that at the end of
the year, municipal investment in these different projects will amount to
500,000 Euros.
During the
meeting, ways of smoothing the processes of awarding licences were
investigated, as well as setting out guidelines for providing better control of
any work which is carried out without a licence, and of those companies which
carry out work in the municipality without complying with the legal
requirements demanded, so that there is no unfair competition with those
businesses which do comply with the law.
