Francisco Juan Mars starts his third consecutive mandate on the Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre Council

The Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre council investiture meeting passed without any surprises, as Francisco Juan Mars was elected mayor based on the absolute majority obtained by the PP in the municipal elections which thus guaranteed that he would form the government.  After forming the Mesa de Edad (a temporary group of different ages) for the voting, in which the oldest councillor was José Colom of the PP and the youngest was the socialist Joan Ronchera, all the parties with representation voted for their candidates, with Joaquin Zaragoza, the Ciudadanos candidate, saying that he was there representing Compromis.

In his investiture speech, Francisco Juan Mars, already mayor, congratulated the members of the municipal corporation “all those councillors who have been chosen by our residents.  We thirteen want to improve our town, from all the political parties and the different opinions.  We shall look for areas of consensus, and take the steps needed to continue building the town.  I want to state that we shall always do our utmost to reach agreements which will be good for the town; we shall not be looking for confrontation.  In me you will always find respect, work, dedication and commitment”.

Francisco Juan Mars went on to assure that “in these difficult times there are many people who are having a bad time, and this means that we must make a greater effort for everyone.  In recent years we have given great support to social policies, the local economy, investments and employment plans.  We shall continue doing these things, in a transparent manner.  I also wish to announce that a work committee will be created to set in motion participative budgets, among other actions”.

With the new stage we are entering, the mayor emphasised that his investiture “is an honour and a responsibility.  I will not disappoint the trust you have placed in me.  The mandate begins with willingness and hope, it is time for actions, it is time for good intentions to become realities.  We must be an example of humility and honesty, with policy in capital letters, because I believe that the majority of those of us who dedicate ourselves to politics are good people; I believe in my town and in its people”.  He ended by saying that “I am satisfied with the things which have been done up to now and I also know that there is still a lot to be done”.

The PSOE councillor, Joan Ronchera, wanted to congratulate the Partido Popular on gaining an absolute majority, stressing that “the Socialist Party had received the most number of votes for 24 years and I want to thank the 1,129 people who believed in the socialist project.  I shall think about them during the next four years and I hope to be up to the circumstances”. “We are happy but we are never satisfied, since the PSOE is an option for government”.
