Charity Walk to the Xivert Castle in aid of the Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer
The walk, organised by the Sierra d’Irta Natural Park, was held on 29th November, and about 100 walkers set off at 09:30 hours. Participants walked through the beautiful natural park, ending up with a visit to the castle fortifications, accompanied by a guide, but most importantly, they were supporting the fight against cancer. The walk was organised as part of an initiative with Natural Parks supporting charities, aimed to show people more of the parks and at the same time contribute to charity.
Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre mayor, Francisco Juan Mars, had urged residents and visitors to participate, saying “The Council supports this initiative as we believe it is a good opportunity to show off our cultural and historic heritage, our Templar Xivert Castle, for those who love monuments and culture, as well as leading people along our walking routes through the park, and showing them how to be aware of and take care of the environment. But above all, it is an opportunity for them to support a good cause – the AECC”. Each walker donated 3 euros to the Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer.
Walkers were given an explanatory talk about the Xivert Castle when they reached the destination.
It should also be reported that several local residents made donations to the cause although they did not take part in the walk.
