The Alcala de Xivert St. Cecilia Music Association celebrated its patron’s day
During the weekend of 21st and 22nd November, the Alcala de Xivert Saint Cecilia Music Association held various events in honour of its patron.
On Saturday, 21st November, they gave a concert in the Alcala Pensioners’ Hall, during which they announced that the new muse for the band in 2016 is Rosa del Pilar.
The programme consisted of “Dunia Piris”, “Limelight”, “Tara’s Theme”, “John Williams in Concert”, “The Time of my Life” (Dirty Dancing), and “Concha Flamenca” which were all played for this special evening.
The event was also attended by representatives of the Valencian Community Federation of Music Societies, who presented the band with a Gold Medal in recognition of the 150 years since its formation. Members of the band had also prepared a surprise tribute to Juan Serra, marking the ten years since he became their conductor.
On Sunday, there was a service in the church in honour of Saint Cecilia, which was followed by a concert of pasodobles in the Church Square.
The weekend of celebrations ended with a visit to the Madrigal football ground, during which the Alcala Band musicians, together with those from Salzadella and Santa Magdalena de Pulpis, played during the match between Vila-real and Eibar, as part of the “Endavant Provincia” programme.
