Businesses in Alcala and Alcossebre request municipal consensus to reduce the effect of PATIVEL
At the request of the Alcala-Alcossebre Businesses Association, a meeting was held in the Alcossebre municipal offices attended by the Mayor and representatives of all the municipal and technical groups from the Council, to deal with the effect which the Generalitat Valenciana’s new plan for town planning development, PATIVEL, would have on the town in the future. On behalf of the businesses, it was requested that “all parties should unite and that they should defend the interests of those owners who could see their sea front land either reclassified or affected”. The business-men asked “what financial payment is the Generalitat Valenciana considering to compensate us”. The municipal technicians explained that “the autonomous administration has no plans for financial compensation”.
The Town Planning councillor and Partido Popular spokesperson, José Colom, reminded them that the Council has already complainted about the town planning moratorium imposed by the Generalitat, before PATIVEL, and at the previous council meeting a proposal was approved, with the votes in favour of the Partido Popular and Ciudadanos, to ask the Generalitat to allow the construction of hotels on the building plots pending development along the sea front and the development of low density, sustainable green estates, and/or rural tourism, in Capicorb”.
The Ciutadans spokesperson, Joaquin Zaragozà, insisted that “PATIVEL will leave the affected land like a wasteland”. For their part, the spokesperson for the municipal socialist group, Adrià Barceló, said that “Alcossebre’s progress does not necessarily depend on building development and, now, when we see that land might be declassified and that might be disadvantaged, now we are concerned”. For the Compromis group, the support depends on “preserving the Capicorb area without developing it and making the most of it by transforming the existing buildings into rural hotels”.
The Mayor, Francisco Juan, reiterated to the owners that “we want to make it clear to the Generalitat that, in our municipality, we have supported sustainable urban development and that our economic future continues to depend on controlled development, which could see the arrival of new investors and the construction of new tourist infrastructures and facilities”.
