Alcala-Alcossebre asks the central Government and the Generalitat for urgent assistance to alleviate the coastal damage caused by the weather

The wooden walkway along the Coastal Footpath has been seriously damaged, as well as accesses and facilities on the beaches

[Img #54191]Alcala-Alcossebre Council is asking for urgent assistance from both the central Government and the Generalitat to alleviate the damage caused by the fierce sea weather of this weekend (21st and 22nd January), which affected the Valencian coast.  The immediate measure will be to put forward a motion in a council meeting to be held on Wednesday, 25th January, to ask both authorities for help, so that reparations can be carried out to correct the damage.

The storm swept away the wooden walkway of the Coastal Footpath on the Cargador and Romana beaches – one of the most notable local natural, tourist attractions, which has been awarded a Blue Flag - as well as accesses and facilities on the beaches, such as the concrete steps on the Romana beach, and the wooden platform.  Showers, sheds and children’s swings have been devastated and sand on the beaches has completely disappeared exposing boulders and a lot of debris from the sea has come to the surface, making the cleaning operations arduous and complicated.

The mayor Francisco Juan, the Town Planning councillor, José Colom, and the Tourism councillor, Alejandra Roca, visited the area to carry out a preliminary assessment of the damage – to be completed on Monday, 23rd January, when they will be accompanied by the engineers in the hope that the storm will end.  “The beaches and their facilities, such as the coastal path, are our principal tourist attractions so it is essential that we take action as soon as possible and return our shores to how they should be” the councillors said.

Also, due to the storm, various crossings such as the Barranco de La Coloma, the San Miguel river, the crossing in the Tropicana camp site area and in Sól del Riu, so that you are asked to take precautions and not to drive in this area.
