See American classic cars and trucks together at “Alcossebre Yankee” from 10th to 12th February

The town is becoming recognised as the scene for it’s ‘out of season tourism’ motoring events

[Img #54362]Alcossebre will be the scene for a new crowd attraction in the world of motoring, an addition to the bike rally organised by Custom Maestrat which reached its thirteenth year this year.  This new initiative, christened Alcossebre Yankee, will be a gathering and exhibition of American classic cars and trucks, from the 10th to 12th February.

Seven clubs from all over Spain have already confirmed they will attend and they can be seen driving around the streets of Alcossebre and Alcala.  There will be such unique, iconic models as the Mustang and Corvette, as well as typical trucks from the American roads.

Tourism councillor, Alejandra Roca, said “we hope that this initiative will get a good reception as it has a double aim:  on the one hand it brings people to the town and those taking part will get to know us, and, on the other hand, we are offering a different, very attractive event to encourage visitors during the low season, so we spread our tourism offer”.  Roca pointed out that “the organisation of this type of events is one more activity in our strategy to consolidate the town as a tourist destination and put us in contact with a public which finds itself very happy in our municipality”.

You can see the participating vehicles exhibited along the Paseo Maritimo in Las Fuentes, where there will also be a market.  They will be driving around Alcossebre during Saturday morning.  On Sunday, 12th February, they will go to Alcala, where they will partake of a meal of traditional products.

The organiser of the event, Justi Galas, pointed out that “with the number of participating clubs, we hope to have between 150 and 200 cars taking part”.  Miguel Martorell, from Custom Maestrat, the collaborating body, pointed out that “the idea is to take advantage of the pull of Alcossebre for motoring fans and make this an annual event”.
