Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre and the French town of Forcalquier sign their town twinning agreement

On Saturday, 24th June 2017, in the Casa de la Cultura in Alcala, the towns of Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre and Forcalquier (France) signed a town twinning agreement between both towns. Representatives from both municipalities took part in the event.
The mayor of Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre, Francisco Juan Mars, and the Culture councillor from Forcalquier, Odile Vidal, signed the protocol to set up the terms of the twinning, as well as exchanging gifts from the two delegations.
Maria Agut, the Alcala de Xivert Culture councillor, read out the points of the agreement signed by the two municipalities, and this was followed by the creation of associations in the two towns, Xivercalquier in the French town and Forcalcossebre in Alcala-Alcossebre, with the two associations reviewing the protocol every four years.
The twinning, as the mayor, Francisco Juan Mars, pointed out, is the result of six years of cultural and pupil exchanges between the two towns, and now has a definitive twinning format for an undefined period with this signing. For him, the friendly relationship between the two towns means that “a little bit of Forcalquier will live in us and a little bit of Alcala-Alcossebre will live in the residents of Forcalquier”.
At the end of the signing ceremony, the procession, accompanied by Alcala’s Asociación Musical Santa Cecilia, walked to the south entrance of the town, where a sign was unveiled saying that the town is twinned with Forcalquier.
The signing of the protocol marked the start of a weekend filled with activities with the visitors from Forcalquier, which included folkloric events, twinning lunches and visits to the Alcala de Xivert monuments such as the parish church and Bell Tower and the Xivert Castle.
