Great Success for the Castell de Xivert Tournament
More than a hundred footballers represented numerous teams from the province
Villarreal and Futur Vinarós won the first basic Castell de Xivert football tournament, after a day of matches marked by how extremely well matched all the various clubs represented in the championship were.
On an Easter Saturday which turned out perfectly from the weather point of view, hundreds of people made their way to the San Fernando pitch to see this first basic football tournament which has taken its name from one of the most important heritage monuments in Alcala de Xivert.
The junior category ended in triumph for Futur Vinarós, who faced C.F. Alcala, Futur Castelló and Villarreal teams. In the next class, triumph went to the yellows who vanquished the host team by three to two and so won the championship. Futur Castelló and Peñíscola who offered a series of absolutely fantastic penalties full of spirit, completed the group in this class.
The town’s mayor, Francisco Juan, was there to present the trophies and this, by the way, was interrupted by the series of penalties mentioned earlier. The mayor thanked the rest of the teams for coming to Alcala. “It is very satisfying for all of us to see that so many clubs from around the province have come to this exciting tournament. We are always ready to support this type of initiative, which encourages sport among the youngsters”, he stated. And another of the aspects which Francisco Juan pointed out was the great participation which these events organised by the C.F. Alcala attract. “The Lo Campanar Tournament, has already brought about 200 players and more families here and now, with this new event, we have again filled the San Fernando pitch with football and a happy atmosphere”, he explained.
