Alcossebre
Las Fuentes beach in Alcossebre reopened for bathing on 7th July 2017

On 6th July Alcala-Alcossebre Council had proven that the water contamination did not come from the municipal cleaning operation. Water analysis on 4th July had caused the General Water Management Department to issue an order to close the beach for bathing. The water was then subjected to further analyses during the next two days and the results then showed that the levels of contamination were much reduced from the earlier test results and that the water then complied with the quality parameters demanded.
Alcala-Alcossebre Council had been in constant contact with the General Water Management Department, in order to discover the cause of the contamination which was then traced to a specific point of the fresh water spring in the beach. Also various tests were carried out on the operation of the Alcala-Alcossebre sewage plant and the municipal sewage pipe network and no anomaly had been detected.
Tourism councillor, Alejandra Roca, stated that “it was a very local, momentary problem” and she insisted that “it is very important for the Council to make every effort throughout the year to ensure that our beaches are in a perfect condition and we work to ensure the quality, both of the water and of the facilities which are available. We have five blue flags, including one for the Las Fuentes beach, which demonstrates the level of the work carried out by the town regarding the care and maintenance of the beaches”.
