Ecovidrio and Alcala-Alcossebre Council encourage residents to join in the recycled glass trophy for the Vuelta Ciclista España

The body presents this awareness initiative as part of the campaign “Recycle glass and pedal”.

With the glass recycled by Alcala-Alcossebre residents, Ecovidrio will design the sustainable trophy for the winner of the Benicàssim-Alcossebre stage.

The trophy symbolises the efforts of both cyclists at each stage and of the citizens in caring for the environment.

Ecovidrio and Alcala-Alcossebre Council are working together to make everyone aware of recycling glass in the forthcoming La Vuelta Ciclista España 2017.  And it will be the glass recycled during the next few weeks by residents in the two Recycle Glass and Pedal campaign containers, with vinyl labelling for the occasion, which will be used to make the sustainable trophy for the winner of the Benicàssim-Alcossebre stage on 23rd August.

 

This awareness initiative, framed within the “Recycle glass and pedal” campaign, aims to motivate the people of Alcala-Alcossebre and make them participate in one of the great sports events.

 

The trophy, the result of action by participating citizens, symbolises the efforts of the cyclists at each stage and of the citizens in caring for the environment.

 

Ecovidrio has also created an official charity souvenir of La Vuelta a España 2017 for the occasion which can be bought on the web site miniglu.es. For the sale of 500 of these commemorative souvenirs, Ecovidrio will donate a hand-bike to the Toledo National Paraplegic Hospital.

 

La Vuelta a España 2017 will take place from Saturday 19th August until Sunday, 10th September, with 21 stages during which enthusiasts and fans of cycling will learn the environmental benefits of recycling glass and the importance of this habit.

 

Information about recycling glass in Alcala-Alcossebre

According to the latest figures for 2016, Alcala-Alcossebre residents recycled a total of 255,453 kilograms of glass, which means that each inhabitant recycled an average of 37.06kg.

 

Regarding the rate of containerisation, Alcala-Alcossebre has an average of 63 inhabitants per container, with 110 igloos currently installed for the collection of waste glass.
