Fraudster arrested by the Guardia Civil in Alcossebre
This person offered holiday apartments in Alcossebre, asking for an amount of money by way of a deposit.
It was established that there were judicial orders against the man arrested from courts in Zaragoza, Burgos, Madrid, Castellón and Valencia.
The man arrested by the Guardia Civil was suspected as being the perpetrator of many fraudulent crimes, and was being looked for by courts throughout the country.
The event arose after various complaints made to the Alcossebre Guardia Civil headquarters, as well as to other police offices throughout the country, where those making the complaints said that they had been victims of a possible fraud.
The modus operandi of the suspect was always the same: he placed an advert on the Internet in which he offered a holiday apartment in Alcossebre for rent. Once the victims contacted him, he asked them for an amount varying between 300 and 400 euros by way of deposit, and when the date came for occupation of the apartment, he informed the clients that it was impossible to formalise the operation, claiming bank embargos and a bad financial situation, asking them to allow him more time.
In many cases, the victims only discovered the fraud after they had made the journey and were forced to seek alternative accommodation when they arrived, with the resulting additional financial loss. Many of them made their complaints in the Alcossebre Headquarters, although a total of 48 complaints had been made about the same fraud in the local areas of those affected, in 17 towns spread throughout Spain.
For this reason, the Guardia Civil officers instigated an investigation to clarify the facts, and after intensive police enquiries, were able to identify, find and arrest a 53 year-old man from Madrid as the suspect who had carried out a multitude of fraud crimes and was wanted by Courts in Zaragoza, Burgos, Madrid, Castellón, Barcelona Alicante and Valencia.
The arrested man, together with the results of the investigations, were passed to the Juzgado de Primera Instancia e Instrucción No.1 in Vinaros. The arrest was carried out by officers of the Alcala de Xivert and Alcossebre Guardia Civil.
