The Mayor of Alcala explains to the Government Sub-delegation how necessary it is to improve rail connection between Castellón and the Baix Maestrat

The Government Sub-delegate pointed out that the Promotion Ministry is working on the Local Trains Management Plan, with an investment of 800 million euros and that this means an increase in the frequency and renewal and duplication of railroads.

The Alcala Mayor, Francisco Juan, wanted to explain face to face to the Sub-delegate from the Castellón Government, David Barelles, how necessary it is for the Government to tackle the improvement in the rail connection between Castellón and the Baix Maestrat department.  Juan detailed the last episode which happened on the previous Sunday, (15th October) in which the Regional Express convoy travelling from Vinaros, destination Castellón and Valencia, was full when it arrived at Alcala station.  Juan said that “we had already asked the Promotion Ministry last March to find a solution to increasing the train lines and providing the service which our residents and all those in the whole area deserve”.

The Government Sub-delegate followed the Mayor’s problem with interest stressing that “the Promotion Ministry had already advised during his last visit to Valencia on the 4th October that they were going to proceed with the total renovation of the railway system for Local Trains in the Community and that they are working on the Local Trains Management Plan, in which 800 million euros will be invested which will mean an increase in frequency and renovation and duplication of railroads”.  It is planned, according to the Sub-delegation, that this Plan will be announced in November.  In addition, when the Public Service Offer is finalised, thent will be the time to deal with the possibility of increasing the number of trains running, which will also mean an evident improvement.

Juan stressed that “I understand that, via the Promotion Ministry, they are studying how to solve this problem and that they are focussing their efforts on increasing and improving the trains which link our area with Castellón but, for my part, I shall continue asking questions and expressing that, as Mayor, I am concerned that my citizens are continuing to endure this deficit”.  He also insisted that “as we have said before, the Generalitat Valenciana cannot remain on the margin and should also be involved, as have other autonomous governments, and involve itself in financing this service, to make improved rail communications for the Baix Maestrat a reality”
