The Council authorises transport assistance for Alcossebre families who take their children to the Alcala municipal nursery school

Alcala-Alcossebre Council will create a new class of financial aid for transport so that Alcossebre families can take their children to the Alcala nursery school, in the same way as assistance is being provided for those Alcossebre families who use the Family Respite Unit in Alcala.
Following the withdrawal in August of the company which managed the municipal nursery school in Alcossebre, the Council started an urgent licensing process, but no company showed any interest. Therefore it was not possible for the service to continue, as had been planned. “The Council provides the building and all the material – which we bought for the previous license holder – as well as paying 50% of the electricity bill. We greatly regret that no company has presented itself for the license but we believe that we cannot do more to make the offer any more advantageous”, the education councillor, María Agut, explained. “It must be remembered that we have another municipal nursery school in Alcala which is also open to Alcossebre families”. And it is exactly for these families in Alcossebre to be able to take advantage of this municipal resource that we are authorising transport assistance for them.
The Mayor Francisco Juan indicated that “as councils we do not have education competence and it is the Generalitat Valenciana which should take care of it but, as it hasn’t, Alcala-Alcossebre Council finds itself obliged to make a large financial effort, maintaining the municipal nursery school, a resource which few municipalities possess on a daily basis. Now, with this assistance, we are helping Alcossebre families to bring their children to the Alcala nursery school, at no extra cost to them”.
The Council has requested the Generalitat Valenciana for compatibility so that the service could be provided as an Infant School although “Unfortunately, this authorization will not be available until May next year. When it is authorised, the Council will put in 14,000 euros, which will be added to all the facilities which are available for the companies interested in managing the service”.
