Work is in progress to renew the drains in the plaza Constitución in Alcossebre

New rainwater drains are being installed to prevent flooding during heavy rains

The main purpose of the work is to prevent water accumulating during torrential rains.  Up to now, the rainwater drainage system was of a unitary type and, on occasions when the volume of water exceeded the expected capacity, it reached maximum and lifted the drain covers.  The work being carried out will prevent this and the new drains being installed will conduct the water to the sea in a new place, taking the water underground and thus preventing the flooding.  The Council is undertaking the work, which has a budget of 52,000 euros, with the collaboration of the Valencian Generalitat providing 60% of the total.

Town Planning councillor, José Colom, explained that “the work has started with a short section of the Vista Alegre, to install the pipes, but the main work will take place in the plaza Constitución, which is where a new sewer will be installed to channel the water”.  It is planned that the work will be completed before the end of the year.
