Alcala-Alcossebre Council is making people aware of domestic violence with a video forum

On Friday, 24th November, two short films will be shown followed by a round-table discussion as part of events being held to celebrate the “Day Against Domestic Violence”

The Social Welfare, Youth and Women Council Departments have prepared a day about preventing domestic violence, as part of the events being held on 25th November, the International Day marking Elimination of Domestic Abuse of Women.

On Friday, 24th November, two short films will be shown from 17:00 h in the Alcossebre CESAL – “You are not alone, Sara” and “Deeds are loves” – which tackle problems such as mistreatment within a couple and the resolution of conflicts with adolescent protagonists.  After the projection, there will be a round-table discussion reflecting on domestic violence, understanding it and discussing tools to prevent it.  The short films and the guides to tackle the after effects are part of the domestic violence prevention programmes developed by the Fundación Isonomía, of which Alcala-Alcossebre is a part having joined the Red Isonomía de Municipios.

Councillors Desa Pitarch and Susan Guillamón urge “everyone, women and men, to attend the films and learn more about a sad reality which continues to be very present in our society so that, in this way, it can be brought into the open and prevented”.

The events will be completed with the Cultupeque session “Equality in play” which will take place on Saturday, 25th November, from 11:30 h, in the Alcala CESAL.

Among the actions designed to prevent and fight against domestic violence, Alcala-Alcossebre Council is working within the VIOGEN protocol, together with the National Police and the Guardia Civil and, through the SEAFI, work is being carried out to intervene in the cases of individual women and their children who are victims of domestic violence.  Work is also continuing with groups of local young people to warn them of behaviours which risk leading to domestic violence.  The Council itself is working to set up the Municipal Equality Plan.
