Ronchera: “Pressure from the Alcala de Xivert socialists meant that the mayor, Francisco Juan, reduced the 2018 IBI”
“Although the mayor resisted it, insistence from the PSPV-PSOE councillors has made an 8% reduction possible in the type of tax which will be applied in 2018 to the IBI (Impuesto de Bienes Inmuebles)”.

The Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre PSPV-PSOE spokesperson, Joan Ronchera, expressed the Socialist Group’s satisfaction at the fact that in 2018 “at last fiscal pressure is being reduced for local residents thanks to the reduction being applied to the burden of IBI (Impuesto de Bienes Inmuebles)”.
This is an achievement for the Socialist party councillors which was possible “following two years of urging, time during which we have exercised as much pressure as we could to twist the arm of the mayor, Francisco Juan”. Pressure which is clearly justified because the financial situation in which the people of this town found themselves “besides being unfair, was unsustainable”. The importance of the matter was what made us include the need to achieve a reduction in local financial pressure in our 2015 electoral programme.
As the 2018 Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre Budget shows, an 8% reduction is being applied to the IBI tax, which will serve to compensate for the last rise of 4% which was applied to the cadastral property value in 1999.
The 8% tax reduction in 2018 has the guarantee of the municipal administrator, who believes that this decision will not reduce the Council’s income because it is compensated for by the rise in the base figure imposed on the tax by other circumstances.
Ronchera says that the socialists, “we believe that it is good news because residents of Alcala and Alcossebre have been enduring a high level of fiscal pressure at a very hard time, substantially reducing the financial potential of the town’s residents”.
Ronchera added that for him, during his 18 years as mayor of Alcala for the Partido Popular, Francisco Juan “has the regrettable honour of having suffocated the town’s families and businesses with the repeated contributions”.
