After being closed for seventeen years, Alcala de Xivert train station is to reopen

Francisco Juan: “After many negotiations and meetings, we are satisfied that we may now be able to make the space available to our residents”

Alcala train station will reopen after being closed for seventeen years, so that the waiting room can be available for use by train passengers.  The facilities, property of Adif, will be renovated by the company and, as it has been maintained in a good condition, it only needs to be cleaned and painted.  The Council has repeatedly asked Adif and RENFE – the previous owner – if they could open the facilities to guarantee users’ comfort.  Finally, after a meeting held in Valencia in November with the stations general subdirector, Juan Cano, an agreement has been reached with Adif to make it possible in the shortest time possible.

On 14th December, the Mayor, Francisco Juan, and the Town Planning councillor, José Colom, accompanied by Adif experts, visited the building to check that both the hall and the waiting room and services require only minimal action, which will be carried out in a few weeks, making the reopening imminent.  “After many negotiations and meetings, we are very satisfied because we have achieved the reopening of the station so that residents can count on this service”, the Mayor said.

Following requests from the Council, Adif has also carried out tasks to maintain the gardens around the station, as well as improving and cleaning the underpass and repairing the lift to the platforms.  “We hope that the rest of the problems can be resolved in the same way we have achieved the opening of the station.  We trust that we now have Adif’s good will”. the Mayor ended.
