Once again, Alcala-Alcossebre will live the magic of Carnival, as is traditional, in two parts, as the fiesta will be held during the weekend of 9th, 10th and 11th in Alcala and the following 16th, 17th and 18th February in Alcossebre.  This year, the role of the Queen will taken by young Belén Vinuesa Rovira and, for the first time, the fiesta will have a child representative, a role which will be taken by the young girl África Marín Seijas.  The Fiestas councillor, Susan Guillamón, pointed out that “we are supporting this fiesta which is awaited during the whole year by our residents, and, with the new child queen, we are inculcating the festive Carnival spirit from an early age”.

[Img #63119]The Alcala-Alcossebre Fiestas Department has prepared a complete programme of events which begin on Saturday 3rd February with an artistic make-up course forcussing on improving the make-up techniques for Carnival.  On the 9th February the CEIP Lo Campanar pupils’ processions will take place – which is longer this year and with the nursery and Alcala play-centre and, at night, the Carnival Queen will welcome the fiesta from the Council, followed by a dance in the Espai d’Oci.  On Saturday 10th the children’s procession will take place at 16:00h and then at 22:00h the big procession through the streets of Alcala will take place, ending at the sambódromo installed in the plaza Juan Vilanova.  Then afterwards, the dance in the Espai d’Oci.  On Sunday 11th, from 18:00 h, the interment of King Don Carnal and the ‘sardinas’, with a new special event with Mr Babakus and Babafoc.  The councillor said that the “interment of the ‘sardinas’ will be very special this year, making it more attractive and entertaining, most importantly for the children”.

The Alcossebre Carnival will begin on Friday 16th February with the CEIP La Mola and the play centre processions and the celebration of the Pyjama Night which will be completed this year with a monologue by Piter Pardo, a ‘best pyjamas’ competition “A group of animals for Carnival” organised by the Alcovet Veterinary Clinic.  Another of the principal 2018 Carnival novelties is a change to the route of the Alcossebre big procession, which will be held from 22:00 h and go along the Avenida Blasco Ibáñez, Avenida Valencia, C/ Sant Benet, C/ Rench, C/ Barquer, Camino L’Atall, Plaza Constitución, C/Sant Benet, Avenida Valencia and Avenida Blasco Ibáñez.  The sambódromo is installed in the Calle Rench, in front of the medical centre.  The aim pointed out by the Fiestas Councillor is “for the procession to go along the busiest streets and those where there are the most restaurants, bars and leisure places”.  When the procession ends, there will be a dance and disco in the Fiestas Marquee.  The fiesta will then end on Sunday with the fancy dress competition in the Alcossebre Asociación Jubilados Sant Benet.

The Council invites “both residents and visitors to enjoy and live the Alcala-Alcossebre Carnival, either watching the processions or attending the dances being held in Alcala and in Alcosssebre”, the Fiestas councillor emphasised.
