This weekend Alcala de Xivert celebrates its Carnival events, from Friday, 9th February until Sunday 11th. Events begin on Friday 9th, at 12:30 hours, with the CEIP Lo Campanar, the Menuts nursery and the Alcala play centre schoolchildren’s processions. At the end there will be hot chocolate for all in the CESAL square. At night, the Carnival queen, Belén Vinuesa, will make the Carnival announcement from the Council balcony. From 21:30 hours, the groups taking part will form up and the procession will start at 22:00 hours arriving at the Council offices where the Queen will invite everyone to join in the fiesta. The fiesta will end with a dance and disco in the Espai d’Oci.
On the Saturday, from 16:00 hours, the children’s procession will take place and for the first time there will be a child queen, África Marín, who will make a speech to all the children from her float. When the procession ends there will be hot chocolate for all those taking part. The big procession will start at 22:00 hours, with the sambódromo set up in the plaza Juan Vilanova and with eleven floats representing the groups. Afterwards, the Espai d’Oci will be the scene for the dance with the Magia Negra and disco.
The burial of the “Rey Carnal” and the “sardina”, with Mr Babakus’ “Babafoc” show will bring the Alcala Carnival to an end. Councillor Susan Guillamón pointed out that “we wanted to promote this last event with a show which would please everyone, and particularly the very young”.
The fiesta will continue the following weekend, 17th and 18th February, with the Alcossebre Carnival.
