The Council is improving access to the Cargador Beach and the calle Colón in Alcossebre

The work is being carried out following recommendations by the COCEMFE to remove architectural barriers for disabled people and those with visual impairment.

The Alcala-Alcossebre Council is carrying out new actions included in the plan to improve accessibility in the town which are focussed on removing architectural barriers in the areas surrounding the Cargador Beach and the calle Colón in Alcossebre.

Experts from COCEMFE Maestrat, with their chairman Ramón Meseguer, recently visited these areas to discuss solutions which would best ensure accessibility.  In fact, the work being undertaken imminently is: the widening of the pavement in the calle Colón, together with the removal of existing obstacles, as well as reducing the pavement slope which makes it inaccessible for wheel-chair users.  It is also planned to lower the pavement all along the pedestrian pathway in the camino L’Atall and to remove another which follows the curved building – and this creates a barrier for people with visual problems.  Regarding the surroundings of the Cargador Beach, an area will be marked off with bollards giving disabled people a pathway to the Coastal Walkway and the beach, new pedestrian pathways will be painted and the “Accessible Beach” sign will be relocated to a more visible position.

The Mayor Francisco Juan indicated that “we have already expressed our wish to collaborate with COCEMFE to carry out planned and continuous action to remove architectural barriers.  At present, we are starting these actions in a very busy part of our town, the surroundings of the Cargador Beach”.
