International Women’s Day celebrated in Alcala-Alcossebre with a charity run and the reading of the manifesto
Nearly 300 people took part in the events organised by the Social Welfare and Women’s Departments, with the collaboration of the IES Serra d’Irta

The demand for equality of the sexes, women’s rights and support marked the celebration of events on International Women’s Day held in Alcala de Xivert on Friday, 9th March. The events, organised by the Social Welfare and Women’s Departments, took place in the Alcala Church square and started with the reading of the manifesto by pupils of the IES Serra d’Irta, in which they appealed for “a stop to inequality” and “the rights to equality, security, liberty, integrity and dignity for women, as for all human beings”. A group of pupils from the IES Serra d’Irta gave a choreographed performance to the song “She”, and released balloons at the end tomark the start of the charity run, with about 300 people taking part. The monies collected from the sale of the T-shirts worn by the participants will go to the AECC (Spanish Cancer Research Association).
The evening ended with a zumba master class and distribution of gifts. On Saturday, 10th March, events continued with the trip organised by the Council to Utiel and Requena and on Sunday there were workshops for therapeutic dance and the Women’s Circle, run by the Asociación Teranat, in the Pensioners’ Hall.
Councillors Desa Pitarch and Susan Guillamón pointed out that “the tremendous participation and the transmission of values and homage to women were the general tonic in this event” and they thanked “the IES Serra d’Irta and the local AECC for their cooperation”.
