This last week, Alcala-Alcossebre Council has been working to have the facilities, beaches and health centres ready for the beginning of Holy Week, when a lot of visitors and second-home owners are expected to arrive.

The Services Department has been working to install the beach walkways, to clean and repair the Coastal Walk and to install and clean the waste bins on the beaches and along the sea front.  One thing which was urgent on the beach was the clearing of the things the sea had brought up and this was difficult because of the high tides in the last few days.

On Saturday, 24th March, the life-guards services started on the local beaches, directed by the Red Cross.  This year there will be additional beach cover compared with previous years.  The service will be in place from Saturday, 24th to Tuesday, 27th from 11:00 h to 18:00 h on the Las Fuentes and Cargador beaches and from Tuesday 27th until 10th April also on the Romana beach, at the same times.  Further, from Monday, 26th March the Las Fuentes auxiliary medical centre will be open, as reinforcement for the Alcossebre health centre during Holy Week and Easter.

The Mayor Francisco Juan said that “Holy Week and Easter mean that our population increases greatly and therefore it is essential to have all the facilities and services ready so that both residents and visitors can enjoy the municipality during these holidays”.  Juan urged people “to take part in the tourist activities which have been planned by the Council, as well as our surroundings, heritage and natural resources”.
