On 21st and 22nd April, Torreblanca will welcome a workshop for experts on threatened marsh birds and in particular, the aquatic warbler, a threatened species which will be at the centre of interest at this event organised by the Global Nature Foundation with the cooperation of the Environment Department.
Experts and investigators from Spain and Portugal will meet in the town where work is being carried out to recover the wetland, where the aquatic warbler rests on its migratory journey through the Natural Park through the Paludicola LIFE project. The objectives of this meeting are to spread information about the project, and the short, medium and long term aims together with their plan of action.
The workshop will be held over two days. On the first day they will discuss the most technical part, analysing the current situation of the aquatic warbler and other marsh birds, the diverse plans in force for their recuperation and the conservation state of the habitats through which this bird passes on its migratory journey.
During the second day, the meeting will move to el Prat where different activities are planned so that everyone interested can get closer to learn about the marsh birds we find in these surroundings. Among the activities people can take part in the ringing campaign or visit the Natural Park with an expert guide in ornithology.
The Environment councillor, Carlos García, has said that “we are putting the final details to the programme for this workshop, which will convert Torreblanca into a disclosure and investigation environment. We are one of the 9 wetlands in Spain collaborating in the Paludicola LIFE project, which makes us a place of interest for experts and investigators and is going to enable us to add value to our Natural Park”.
The Paludicola LIFE project has been developed by the Fundación Global Nature and the Junta de Castilla y León, with support from the European Union LIFE financial body and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fishing, Food and Environment through the Fundación Biodiversidad, the Generalitat Valenciana, Torreblanca Council and the Infertosa company together with the cooperation of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha.
