Zaragozà: “Thanks to Ciudadanos, Alcala de Xivert is going to protect and conserve it local heritage”

The spokesperson, Ximo Zaragozà, urged “the public administrations to cooperate to create an archaeological park in Alcala-Alcossebre driven by Ciudadanos”

[Img #65412]The Ciudadanos (Cs) spokesperson on the Alcala de Xivert Council, Ximo Zaragpzà, has stated that “thanks to Cs, the municipality will put into operation a plan to protect and conserve the local heritage having obtained unanimous approval to acquire a building of mediaeval origin in the calle San Joan, with Gothic elements inside, and to promote the creation of the Alcala-Alcossebre Archaeological Park”.  “With both initiatives from the Cs, which have been declared institutional following the unanimous support, it will increase tourism, be good for our economy and conserve the cultural heritage of the municipality”, he explained, and described these agreements as “good news for all residents”.

Zaragozà insisted on putting the argument for the motion, which he had presented initially to the Spokespersons Meeting but which had been declined during their debate, finally approving it as an institutional declaration as it was agreed to put forward a “Plan for Municipal Recuperation of Unique Buildings” which the Municipal Technical Services  will start drafting with a detailed study on the heritage relevance and state of conservation of unique buildings such as the Bakery in the Calle Sant Joan, the house in the plaza Ricardo Cardona and the former Carmelite Nuns Convent, among others; evaluating possible interesting uses for the municipality of the unique buildings and the appropriate measures to restore and renovate them; to draw up a four-year plan which would include the acquisition of these buildings, according to the priorities described in the plan, getting the corresponding budget set aside to carry out the projects; and finally create a committee for following up the plan.  At no time was the purchase of any building approved.

Regarding the creation of the archaeological park, Zaragozà pointed out “the importance of implicating other administrations such as the Diputación Provincial and the Generalitat Valenciana for financial cooperation in the project”.  Also, “it should be the Generalitat Valenciana’s Heritage Department which now advises on the steps to take to create this new cultural nucleus”, the councillor specified.  Finally, Zaragozà advised that “Cs’ initiative has been passed to the local Consell Agrario for study, to create a land-bank” and in this way, the councillor explained that “we Cs hope for positive reports to be able to approve it at the next council meeting”.  “The proposal is looking to mediate among farmers with unused land and people who may wish to cultivate them in order to alleviate, as far as possible, the abandonment of cultivatable land as already 50 per cent is now uncultivated”, the councillor explained.
