The first Alcossebre-Castellón Ruta de Sabor Gastronomy Fair ended with successful attendances and sales

A fundamental part of the success came from the parallel events: tastings and showcookings, with products from the Castelló Ruta de Sabor and local products such as Pastes de Sempre

The first Fira Gastronomica Alcossebre-Castello Ruta de Sabor, which was held this weekend, 28th and 29th April 2018, has ended with a very positive valuation from the Alcala-Alcossebre Council.  The 21 stalls at the fair provided an opportunity for people to learn about the products included in the Diputación’s Castello de Ruta de Sabor – oils, cheeses, wines and liqueurs, pastries, aperitifs, sweet pastries, etc. with special emphasis on the four local products which were available: the Hanging Tomatoes from Alcala, the products from the Masia Ana, the Bardomus oil and the La Tipica craft beer.  Also, the “Pastes de Sempre” were exhibited by participating Alcala-Alcossebre businesses, marketing baked products made according to ancient recipes and traditional products.  The attendance by the public was constant during the whole weekend and, for the exhibitors, their evaluation of their sales is also positive.  The Mayor Francisco Juan stated that “the success of having organised this fair during a weekend when we were visited by many people because of the long May weekend, who could visit and buy the products, thus invigorating the local economy.  We are satisfied because, in addition to the Hanging Tomato Fair, we are now adding this new date with our local gastronomy and businesses” and pointing out “the collaboration of the Castellón Diputación and the Castelló Ruta de Sabor in giving us the opportunity of being the window on the north of the province”.

One of the most successful facets of the fair was having the different events which were held in the showcooking space; demonstrations of different gastronomic recipes based on the Castelló Ruta de Sabor products.  The showcookings were organised by the CdT Castellón, Taberna Pikapote, Can Roig, Olas de Chocolate and Dolç i Salat, Restaurante El Mirador and Mochila de Sabor.  There were two wine tastings  – on Saturday with IGP Castelló wines and on Sunday the wines and fortified wines from the Mas de Rander combined with Pastes de Sempre.  Councillor Alejandra Roca thanked everyone who had taken part and the local groups, like Custom Maestrat, who contributed to making the fair such a success”.
