Four blue flags renewed for Alcossebre Cargador, Romana, Manyetes and El Moro beaches

Francisco Juan: “We have not been able to renew the Las Fuentes beach blue flag but the environmental quality of the beach is assured and work has been carried out to the maximum to resolve the problems of last summer”

Alcossebre has renewed four blue flags on the Cargador, Romana, El Moro and Manyetes (Tropicana) beaches, and is, for another year, the Baix Maestrat municipality with the greatest number of blue flags and one with the most awards in the province, according to the Environmental and Consumer Education Association (Adeac), a dependent of the European Environmental Education Federation (EFE).  The Blue Walkway along the Cargador and Romana beaches had its flag renewed because of its particular landscape value.

The award for the Las Fuentes beach could not be renewed, because of the spillages which were recorded last year.  Sincen the spillage started, aiming to find a solution to this problem, the Council has continued to carry out several actions, such as inspections and controls to find the source of the spillage – both in public and private installations – and the renovation of the drainage in the Las Fuentes beach.  “From the first minute, we did everything possible in the Council’s hands to resolve the situation and we hope that this summer it will not happen again and that next year we may be able to count on a blue flag waving on Las Fuentes beach”, the Mayor Francisco Juan pointed out that he has insisted that “not having a blue flag does not mean that maximum quality is not assured on Las Fuentes beach and we are going to continue with the same services as in previous years”.

“We are not satisfied because we have not been able to renew the five flags but we are working intensely to guarantee that services and facilities are in an optimum condition for accessibility, security and environmental education in all our beaches, as can be seen from the four flags we have.  We will also continue improving aspects such as increasing the hours of attendance of the beach lifeguard attendance and actions to organise our coastal front, with pedestrianisation”, Alejandra Roca, the Tourism councillor, pointed out.
