Work has already started to convert the space around the Bedoll and Ametller streets in Alcossebre into a new park for dogs. This is in addition to the one which will be built in Alcala, on a plot belonging to the municipality on the Lo Campanar industrial estate, completing the Council’s actions to make Alcala-Alcossebre into a “Pet-friendly municipality” which had started with the preparation of the Serradal beach to make it suitable for dogs in summer 2016.
The new dog park in Alcossebre will be in a fenced area of 1,400 square metres, so that the pets can be off-lead. Inside, there will be facilities for games and training, as well as the dog park area, a special animal drinking fountain. There will also be benches and spaces so that pet owners can rest while the animals exercise. The cost of the park is 16,400 euros – the same as the Alcala park – paid for out of financially sustainable investments resulting from the 2017 municipal savings. The work is being carried out by staff under the Local Employment Plan.
The Mayor Francisco Juan stated that “two years ago we started with the pet beach to increase the spaces for animals in Alcala-Alcossebre and we are continuing with this work with these two new dog parks. We hope that people with pets will benefit from them and we request that they make good use of them”.
