Alcala-Alcossebre Council put forward complaints about the General Management Department for Public Works, Transport and Mobility’s resolution which approved the initial project for the Public Service for Passenger Transport between the towns of Vinaros and Castellón de la Plana. This initial project did not include Alcossebre as a stop for the 9b service from the Airport to Vinaros, which the Council described as “surprising, as Alcossebre is an excellent tourist destination and, according to studies and surveys, for 80% of the airport users it is their preferred destination”. Tourism councillor, Alejandra Roca, explained that “we do not understand why three stops were set up in Alcala and none in Alcossebre, when the tourism potential and the place where the majority of airport users travel, is the coastal nucleus” and insisted that “it seems that this project was drawn up without taking into account the studies and statistics from the Valencian Tourism Agency and that each Department is working alone”. Regarding the itinerary, Roca said that “we do not know what criteria was followed to set it up as the bus leaves the N340 at various points to access towns like Benlloch or Torreblanca and what we are requesting is that it also turns off into Alcossebre”.
The Mayor, Francisco Juan, explained that “This already happened with our town’s taxis, which, according to the Generalitat Valenciana, could not operate with parking spaces at the airport and, thanks to the pressure from the Council, we achieved this and other towns also benefitted”. He insisted that “as well as presenting the complaints, we have already requested a meeting with the General Management of Public Works, to explain the situation and to ask that, from the Generalitat Valenciana, it is put right and that Alcossebre is included in the bus route from the airport giving it the importance which it has of being the tourist destination it is and without forgetting that in the high season, we can reach 80,000 inhabitants”.
Among the complaints put forward by the Council, they are also asking for a new service of local trains (Cercanías) considering the revision of timetables so that the arrival times of trains coincide with those of the buses.
