Alcala-Alcossebre spreads knowledge of its potential for accessible tourism

Blogger Miguel Nonay, author of the “Living Recklessly” blog, specialist in inclusive tourism, visited Alcala-Alcossebre as part of a familiarisation trip organised by the  Provincial Tourism Council which this week took him to various places in Castellón Province.  Nonay visited the Santa Llúcia hermitage, coves in the Sierra d’Irta and the accessible area for swimming on the Cargador beach.  As an activity, he went for an underwater immersion.  At all times he was able to move around in the wheel-chair and pass along the adapted places, where  work has been carried out to remove architectural barriers  to enable disabled people to get about without any problems.

Tourism councillor, Alejandra Roca, who accompanied him on the day, pointed out “the accessible areas on the Cargador and Romana beaches, where we were able to find showers, changing rooms, shady areas and access to the amphibious chairs with help from the life guard service, which ensures that any disabled person can have access to the beach and swimming”.  Roca also pointed out that “every time there are more businesses in our municipality which are adapted and which offer inclusive tourism activities”.

Mayor Francisco Juan said that “we are making great efforts on the Council to make the municipality completely accessible and work is being carried out systematically to ensure accessibility in the town centre, tasks which we are carrying out with the advice of the Cocemfe Maestrat”.
