Alcala-Alcossebre Partido Popular is to ask the Generalitat and Fomento for direct access from the AP-7 to the municipality
Alcala-Alcossebre Partido Popular has put forward a motion to be taken to the next full Council meeting, requesting the Generalitat Valenciana and the Ministerio de Fomento for a new direct access to Alcala-Alcossebre from the AP7 and improvement to the safety of the N340 along the route through the municipality. This week the Department of Housing, Public Works and Land Division has announced that it has drawn up a new Connection Plan in which there would be three new accesses to the AP-7 in Castellón province, once this infrastructure is liberalised in 2019, in Vinaròs, Benicàssim and Vila-real. “It was a complete surprise when the Department announced that it was asking the Ministerio de Fomento for these three new exits from the AP-7 and we had not been consulted”, Francisco Juan, the Mayor of Alcala-Alcossebre, said. “We believe that this new access to the municipality of Alcala would be very positive as it would mean freeing traffic from the section which goes from the existing exits at Torreblanca and Benicarló and our residents and visitors would be saved from travelling along the section of the N340 which accumulates a great density of traffic with very dangerous black spots, with many accidents”, he insisted and “we have always been in agreement with the liberalisation but we believe that our municipality merits a direct access to the AP-7 to improve the connectivity of the infrastructure with the El Campaner industrial estate and as a preferred tourist destination”.
The motion is also asking the Department to create an integrated committee for all the municipalities affected by the AP-7 and the dangers of the N340, so that the current needs and problems could be analysed, and the solutions be adopted. “Unfortunately, on this matter the Generalitat has again shown a lack of dialogue and a scandalous attitude of denigrating the municipalities. Councils need to have their say in order to pass on the feelings of residents who, in the end, are the ones who travel the road every day and know what is needed”, Francisco Juan concluded.
