For another year Alcossebre En-cant returns marking the pulse of the Alcala-Alcossebre Council’s cultural programme during July.  The festival, which has been held since 2012, converts several places in Alcala and Alcossebre into auditoriums with high standard classical music events and, this year, concerts which have been able to be heard in the Madrid National Auditorium.  Tickets cost 3 euros each or 15 euros for the whole festival.   All the funds collected are given to the NGO Action against Hunger.  Tickets can be obtained from one hour before each concert, wherever the production is taking place.

The great success of last year’s production of Donizetti’s comic opera L’Elisir d’Amore has made possible the presentation of a new opera this year, in this case, the rehearsal-event of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro on Thursday, 19th July, at 20.00 h, in the Alcala Espai d’Oci, with the orchestra and choir of the Castellón Amics de l’Opera, under the direction of Josep Gil and Rafael Lloret.  The Culture councillor, María Agut, insisted that “like last year, this is a unique opportunity for our residents to enjoy a production of such high musical quality”.

There are five other events in the programme starting on Friday 13th July with the Mediterranean String Trio giving a performance of Schubert’s Quintet ‘The Trout’, with an introduction, at 20.00h in the Alcossebre Sant Benet Pensioners’ Centre.  In the same place, on Saturday 14th July at 20.00h, a concert of French Song performed by Elisabeth Poirel and Laetitia Federici, with introductions and on Monday, 16th July, at 20.00h, a recital of Latin Piano music by Pascual Gimeno, with his own compositions.  On Tuesday, 17th July, at 20.00h, there will be a Lyric Gala tribute to the composer Leonard Bernstein, with pieces from Candide and West Side Story and on Wednesday 18th, at 22.00h, on the patio at the Santa Lucía Hermitage, the projection of a silent film of Buster Keaton in “El collegial” (College) in the open air with piano accompaniment.

María Agut pointed out that “all the musicians taking part do so altruistically and always promoting culture and music” and she insisted that “Alcossebre En-cant is a well established cultural activity which has a faithful following among the public who eagerly await these high level concerts”.
