Work has already started on building the new bike/pedestrian area along the Cargador pathway in Alcossebre, limiting the way for vehicles and parking along the sea front, reserving the way for pedestrians and bicycles.  The work also includes paving for car parking at the start of the pathway.  This action affects an area of 2,772 sq. metres and will consist in asphalting a bike track with a pedestrian path alongside it.  The lanes will be of different colours to delineate their route.

The work is being carried out by the BECSA company, at a cost of 49,994 euros, and is financed by the Alcala-Alcossebre Council as a financially sustainable investment, using money left in the treasury at the end of financial year 2017.  In order to carry this out, authorisation had to be obtained from the Provincial Coastal Service, as it lies within the maritime-land domain area.

Mayor Francisco Juan said that “it is a priority for our team to extend a long pedestrian way from the lighthouse to Capicorb all along the sea front, completing areas which are still not yet pedestrianised.”  In this case, in the Cargador area, Juan pointed out that “we are preparing the parking, because we know that many people arrive at the beach by car but we are giving pedestrians and bicycles priority, precisely because this is one of the quality criteria which are demanded for beaches to achieve blue flags and because we believe that this is the line to follow so that our municipality remains more sustainable and increases the great attraction of our coast”.
