Alcala-Alcossebre Council reminds Adif of their promise to make Alcala train station accessible

Francisco Juan: “Succeeding in reopening the station has been very positive, after seventeen years with it closed, but all residents and train users have the right to be able to use it”.

[Img #69743]Alcala-Alcossebre Council has reminded Adif of their promise to resolve the accessibility problems at Alcala train station.  After being closed for seventeen years, thanks to an agreement between Adif and the Alcala-Alcossebre Council the station re-opened on 12th November last year, coinciding with the increase in the number of trains on the Valencia-Castellón-Vinaròs line,.  At that time a promise was obtained from Adif that they would carry out the works needed to remove the architectural barrier which impeded access to the waiting room for disabled people and forced them to reach the platform by a side door.  Regarding the lift which unites both platforms, Adif said that it would depend on resolving an administrative problem with the installing company and that a solution was on track.

In view of the situation complained of by a local resident who found himself faced with serious problems at both Alcala and Benicarló stations, Mayor Francisco Juan has repeated to Adif by letter that “taking into account that the station re-opened last 12th November, two months ago, I believe it to be vital that you do not spend any further time delaying this action, as all our residents and train users have the right to count on a completely accessible station”.
