Alcala-Alcossebre Council has started work on the two crossings of the barranco Estopet, in the camino La Jorba and camino Campamento, which were practically destroyed by the torrential rain last October. In recent weeks, the Council has repeatedly told the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation that authorisation was urgently required to enable them to take action, as the area remained impassable and they were two heavily used roads which provide access to the Capicorb coastal area. Having requested it through various bodies and publicly complained about this situation, finally the Confederation has given its authorisation and the Council has been able to start the work. “As these are regularly used areas, the Council’s intention was to be able to carry out the work as soon as possible, as we had the necessary finance and experts available to do it”, Town Planning councillor, José Colom, said.
The work has started this week, will cost 42,967 euros. In the section of the camino La Jorba, the rain had swept away the surface and materials, leaving it empty and without a solid base, making it extremely risky for any vehicles to drive along it in the event that they had missed the signs warning of the danger. Here the work consists of raising and excavating the area, reconstructing the reinforced concrete wall which holds the road up, filling and compacting and giving it a solid surface.
In the camino Campamento area, part of the road had no asphalt and was covered in gravel, stones and potholes, making the surface very bumpy along it, making circulation difficult and destabilising the surface. The affected area is being cleared and a new breakwater wall will be built and concreted.
In all, work is being carried out to 125 sq. metres and it is hoped that it will be finished in two weeks.
