Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline, with low tariffs in Central and Eastern Europe, and growing the most throughout the continent has announced two new routes from Castellón to the capital of Hungary, Budapest, and the Polish city of Katowice. These new connections from Castellón will start operating on the 16th and 17th June 2019 respectively, with two weekly flights each. Wizz Air will fly to Budapest on Wednesdays and Sundays and to Katowice on Mondays and Fridays. Seats are already on sale at wizzair.com from only 14.99 euros*.
The new routes, with a forecast of 18,000 passengers annually, will also contribute to the local economy, through indirect jobs in the operations of the airport, transport, hotels and tourism.
Budapest will dazzle Spanish tourists from first sight. The Danube which at the same time separates and unites the two parts of the city, lets you contemplate it in perspective. Above is Buda, the historical, with its mediaeval and baroque buildings, the Matias Church, the Castle and the Fishermen’s Bastion. Below is Pest, young and vibrant, with its spectacular Parliament which is reflected in the river and its Cathedral, with its elegant avenues and shops. And beneath the two, the enormous pockets of thermal water which have this city the spa capital.
Katowice is the capital of the historic region of Silesia, famed for its mines. One of its main attractions is the Nikiszowiec quarter built by the miners who worked in a nearby mine. The recent Museum of Silesia is also interesting. But, above all, Katowice is the airport at the entrance to the south of Poland and one of its main cities, Krakow, where there are many attractions, among which the Rynek Glowny square and the Commercial Store are outstanding. There are many interesting places to visit in the surrounding area, from the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp to the Wieliczka salt mines, both of which have been declared Humanity Heritage sites.
In response to the great demand from its Spanish clients and trying to create more opportunities for really affordable travel, WIZZ is increasing its network in Spain, in 2019 offering a total of 55 routes to 10 countries from 12 Spanish airports, Alicante, Barcelona El Prat, Castellón, Fuerteventura, Ibiza, Madrid, Málaga, Palma de Mallorca, Santander, Tenerife, Valencia and Zaragoza which will contribute to an increase in tourism, both inwards and outwards, and improve trade opportunities between countries.
This year, with over 3.4 million seats on sale on its Spanish routes, the Wizz Air seat capacity has increase by 42% compared with the previous year, which will contribute further to the economy of the country and stimulate the labour market in the aviation and tourism service sectors, with a projected 2,500** jobs in 2019.
Andras Rado, Wizz Air Manager of Corporate Communications said: “We are delighted today to celebrate the announcement of two new WIZZ routes from Castellón to Budapest and Katowice, and to continue creating more travel opportunities for our Spanish passengers. Today’s announcement underlines our promise to Spain, a market to which we have been dedicated for the last 15 years. Our Spanish travellers can now fly to 55 destinations enjoying our convenient flight times and our low cost tariffs from 14.99 euros*.
With these two new routes we also hope to provide new travel experiences and different business opportunities which might satisfy the needs of our Spanish clients. We welcome all our future new passengers to discover these and other great European destinations whilst enjoying WIZZ’s low tariffs and a great on-board experience”.
Castellón Airport company General Director, Joan Serafi Bernat commented: I would like to express our satisfaction with the opening of these two new routes, as they will encourage the arrival of tourists from Hungary and Poland to Castellón and at the same time will allow Castellón citizens to connect with two new European destinations. We trust that these routes, together with that recently announced to Bucharest will just be the beginning and that in the near future Wizz Air may be able to increase its presence in our airport through new connections.
