The Government Delegate in the Valencian Community, Juan Carlos Fulgencio, has assessed the first quarter of the increased operation of the railway between Castellón and Vinaròs and, as he announced, it has acquired 20,000 new users.
Also, movements have increased 21% between the provincial capital and the main towns in the regions of the Plana Alta and the Baix Maestrat compared to the same period the previous year. Juan Carlos Fulgencio who visited Vinaròs station together with the Government sub-delegate Soledad Ten, and representatives of the benefitting municipalities, indicated that “the right to movement is a priority for the Development Ministry. The Cercanías services are a Government duty and promise to the people”.
The delegate added that “the Government knows that it must continue improving on this subject. We are aware that in recent years there has been little investment and therefore in the draft of the 2019 State General Budgets a considerable effort has been made to improve the Cercanías”.
This new investment in the Cercanías between Castellón and Vinaròs, included in the Public Services Obligations (OSP), meant an overall facility of 24 services between Mondays and Fridays, 12 in each direction. The increase in the service has enabled residents in Castellón, Benicàssim, Oropesa, Torreblanca, Alcala de Xivert, Benicarló-Peñíscola and Vinaròs “to see a noticeable improvement in their rail transport conditions”, Juan Carlos Fulgencio said. In fact, a total of 117,000 travellers have used the new services during the first three months of traffic and the average number of travellers per day has risen from 1,075 to 1,300.
Renfe have run the new train services between Castellón and Vinaròs since the 12th November last. The increase of the facility, with 16 new services, has tripled the frequency of trains between the provincial capital and the principal towns of the Plana Alta and the Baix Maestrat.
