Local Police to give a new course in self-defence in Alcala-Alcossebre
The welcome reception of the first course, held last year, persuaded the Social Welfare and the Women’s Departments to include it in the programme for the International Women’s Day during March

Alcala-Alcossebre Council is supporting the offer of a Self-Defence Course for Women given by Local Police officers Dánae Gauxachs and Joel Herrera. The first course held last year was attended by 32 women, between the ages of 24 and 62 years, who have already indicated their interest in the course continuing and enlarging its content. The aim of the course is to outline the basic ideas of self-defence so that any woman may take advantage of her ability and stand up to violent situations or attack. The use of every-day objects to defend oneself and some basic ideas of martial arts, as well as how to make use of a fist, hand or person, basic dislocations and how to find the painful points of the aggressor.
The course will be held in Alcala on Mondays11th, 18th and 25th March from 18.00h to 20.30h in the Pensioners’ Hall, and in Alcossebre on Saturdays 16th, 23rd and 30th March from 10.00h to 12.30h in the CESAL building. Registration is completely free and can be made in the Council Offices in Alcala and Alcossebre until 5th March.
The activity is part of the programme organised by the Social Welfare and Women’s Departments as part of the commemoration during March of International Women’s Day. It is also part of the Council’s actions with the Funds for Councils provided from the State Pact against Domestic Violence.
